North Park

North Park

North Park includes the sub-neighborhoods of Burlingame, Altadena, and the Morley Field area.

Welcome to North Park

North Park is a neighborhood in San Diego, California. It is situated to the northeast of Balboa Park. The North Park sign can be seen at 30th Street and University Avenue, and this intersection is often considered to be the heart of the neighborhood. North Park includes the sub-neighborhoods of Burlingame, Altadena, and the Morley Field area (site of the Dryden Historic District).

The North Park neighborhood is a mix of different architectural styles from many eras including craftsman bungalows and California bungalows.

North Park is also well known for the variety of 5-star rated cafes, restaurants, boutiques, microbreweries and the North Park farmers market. North Park was recently voted by Forbes magazine as one of the country’s best hipster neighborhoods for 2014.

Offering very close proximity to Downtown San Diego, North Park offers a great alternative to those who want to be close to the city center but prefer a neighborhood with small community values.

A Storied Past

Initially established in the early 1900s as a residential neighborhood, North Park expanded rapidly following the introduction of the streetcar line that linked it to downtown. The streets are lined with a diverse array of historic Craftsman bungalows, Spanish-style homes, and mid-century residences, many of which have been lovingly restored and preserved. Today, North Park’s architectural heritage stands proudly alongside the neighborhood’s modern lofts and apartments.

A Cultural & Culinary Hub

At the heart of North Park is 30th Street and University Avenue, which is considered one of America’s best hipster beer bar streets. The neighborhood boasts dozens of breweries, tasting rooms, and gastropubs. It also has a constantly evolving roster of restaurants that showcase global flavors and an inventive dining scene. Independent coffee houses, cocktail lounges and dessert spots add to the area’s lively energy.

Beyond dining, North Park is celebrated for its creativity and artistic spirit. Murals, art studios, and galleries reflect the close ties to the arts. The historic North Park Theatre (Observatory North Park) is a premier live music venue, hosting major acts as well as local talent.

Community Events & Lifestyle

North Park thrives on community. The North Park Festival of Arts, the Ray at Night art walk, and the weekly farmers market draw crowds from all over the city while giving locals a chance to mingle and appreciate local talent. On weekends, locals can be spotted enjoying leisurely activities such as walking their dogs, visiting the local boutiques, and socializing at the sidewalk cafes. With its tree-lined streets, parks, and walkable layout, North Park strikes a balance between urban energy and neighborhood comfort.

Convenient Location

North Park San Diego is conveniently located just minutes from downtown San Diego, Balboa Park and major freeways. Whether you are commuting to work, visiting tourist attractions or simply enjoying an evening out, everything seems to be within reach.
